The Kite Site

In the winter of 1975 Joe Goven took over Keats Inn, Shanklin, Isle of Wight and began searching for a band. The following summer he invited 3 local musicians to form a group for the season: Andy Skelton, Doug Watson and Tim Marshall.

It was a shrewd move. Over the next 4 years Kite proved to be arguably the most popular Island band of the decade. Providing a surprisingly full sound for just 3, Kite (or Brother as they were first known) were guaranteed to fill the dance floor.

In 1977 they won ATV's New Faces on 2 occasions and ended up the top group of the series. Their live performance on the Gala Final was watched by an estimated fifteen million viewers. A record deal was secured with Decca Records and a single, "You Got the Power" and "I Love the Love We've Got" was released as a double A side. A year later the Kite Album was released.

Kite played their final performance at Keats Inn on Sunday 2nd September 1979 to a packed house.
